Spring is not here yet, but here's some films to help you look forward to it even more.
LOGAN is based upon the Marvel 'Old Man Logan' storyline about a future in which Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is one of the last mutants after a devastating purge of his kind, only for potential redemption and hope coming in the form of a young girl which he must now protect. The film is said to be the final entry for Jackman, and it looks like he's going out with a big bang. Not only will this be the first 'R' rated X-Men entry, but buzz and early trailers have been overly positive. The anticipation for 'Logan' is red hot.
THE GREAT WALL stars Mark Whalberg as a warrior who discovers the famous landmark's true purpose was to keep out not the invading Mongolian empire but rather unholy and monstrous creatures. Aside from the strange premise and the bizarre white-washing by having the hero be Caucasian saving the Asians the early previews do show some entertainment value in 'The Great Wall' even if for only two hours of popcorn fluff.
T2: TRAINSPOTTING is the long-awaited sequel to Danny Boyle's 1996 cult classic about a gang of heroine addicts who attempt to organize themselves and pull off various schemes in order to live a better life. The sequel sees the return of all the original members in what looks to be a very faithful and well made sequel. Which should not surprise me being it is directed by the same man. Here's hoping for a good one here.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Disney's 1991 animated Best Picture nominee. I loved the original film and it still stands as my favorite animated Disney feature and this live action edition seems to be retaining much of what made the original so beloved in the first place. The songs are back, the casting is perfect, and everything looks about the same. Disney, please don't screw this up.
GHOST IN THE SHELL comes from the Japanese Manga and 1995 anime film of the same name and will star Scarlett Johanson as a cybernetic woman learning her purpose in the future world she lives in, all the while on the hunt for a dangerous cyber criminal. Anime to live action films are not exactly the stuff of legends whether they're made in the USA (Speed Racer) or even the homeland of Japan (Attack on Titan). The advanced special effects of 2017 can bring the visual flair of 'Ghost in the Shell' to the silver screen closer than ever before, but time will tell this March whether we finally get a worthy adaptation.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND is the fourth reboot of the 1933 classic film about a mysterious island full of aggressive and majestic creatures including the titular Kong. This remake looks to change it up enough to make for an interesting film that will at least stand out from the others. This combined with the upcoming 'Godzilla 2' from Legendary Pictures, the battle of the millennium between the two is only a matter of time and this remake is well worth that battle.
THE BOSS BABY is based upon the best selling baby picture book of the same name about a big brother coming to cope with his new brother, who dresses in a business suit and is unusually smart. The trailer is hilarious and the source material is really sweet. This will be the perfect movie to take the young ones to for a fun and funny time.
POWER RANGERS is based upon the 90's phenomena about a group of teenagers who discover the power to protect the world from the evil Rita Repulsa and her horde of interplanetary monsters. The serious and darker tone is questionable for sure, but the nostalgic boy in me just cannot wait to GO GO at the theater again. GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!
