The Disaster Artist (2017)

'The Room' has become a big cult favorite since its quiet release back in 2003. Made by the mysterious and eccentric Tommy Wisaeu, the film has quickly become known as the best/worst movie of all time and with good reason. However, what could have been a quick note in film history has become a phenomenon no one could have anticipated, especially the filmmakers themselves. 'The Disaster Artist' tells how the film came to be and is based upon the biographical book of the same name (which I recommend reading if you're a film fan) and is brought to the screen by James Franco and his brother Dave. The film is both a laugh riot and a film that will inspire you to pursue your dreams in life, as corny as that sounds.

Immediately, Tim Burton's 'Ed Wood' from 1994 comes to my mind when viewing this film as it also told the tale of a bad filmmaker with a big heart and passion to work in Hollywood. While his work doesn't turn out quite how he wanted, he still pursued his dream and didn't care what people said or how many times they tried to put him down. It's the classic Hollywood story told in a fresh way and the cherry on top is that it comes from the pages of real life. James Franco has thoroughly impressed me with this movie and his portrayal of Tommy is spot on, even recreating iconic scenes from 'The Room' to perfection. His brother Dave does just as well, providing the drama element and seeing the physical transformation of Greg from an innocent starry eyed boy into a man who makes hard choices in life for his friend.

If Franco doesn't get any kind of recognition from the award season this year, I'd be shocked. Hell, they should bring Tommy to the Oscars when it wins. 'The Disaster Artist' is a great movie to make you feel good. It's funny, engaging, and teaches some good classic life lessons that is sorely missed in films today.
