Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

'Blade Runner 2049' has been quite the talk of the town this past weekend and even I had to sit and think about it for a while before I sat down to talk to you today. I will simply say this: movies like this are why I want to make movies and why I love everything about film. Director Denis Villeneuve has brought us some truly spectacular and thought provoking films in his few years in the industry and while they aren't for everyone, they are all worth discussing and that's what I think makes films special. The film can make lots of money but be completely forgotten in a few weeks, whereas a film such as 'Blade Runner 2049' regardless of its financial success is something special because it's a film worth debating over, a film worth having deep thought about, a film that isn't going to spoon feed you and doesn't give you all the answers. It's a film that wants you to think for yourself and whether that results in a positive or negative reaction, if it has given you such a strong reaction that's something special.

This is simply my favorite film of the year, from its strong direction, excellent acting, and the best cinematography I've seen in several years. 'Blade Runner 2049' has you thinking about life, death, acceptance, racism, the soul, sexuality as both a product of industry and as a natural thing in life, identity, and so much more that I can't say it all here. Unfortunately, there's not much I can tell you in terms of story because it's all spoiler territory so what I recommend is if possible to please go in fresh and with little to no knowledge of the film. Don't let anyone spoil this film for you!

'Blade Runner 2049' may have not dazzled at the weekend box office but as a friend on my social media said: a film should be about longevity and not the weekend rat race. Words of wisdom.
