New 'Friday The 13th' film has a director
Breck Eisner, the director of 2009's 'The Crazies' remake has been selected to helm the thirteenth film in the franchise, due out sometime in 2017. The newest film in the long running slasher franchise has been having a surprisingly difficult time getting off the ground, as one would think making one of these films isn't that difficult. That's not a bash towards any filmmakers, who do indeed work hard for these to reach the theaters, it seems with this new sequel New Line/Warner Brothers have been thinking a little too hard with it.
Mr. Eisner is of course the son of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and while he does likely have the knowledge and skills, in my opinion I don't think he has shown us his true potential as of 2016. While 'The Crazies' was nowhere near a bad remake (I actually enjoyed it more than Romero's original) that's really the only notable film under his belt. The box office flop 'Sahara' and last year's Vin Diesel snooze-fest 'The Last Witch Hunter' being his only other films has me worried for this upcoming 'Friday' sequel.
Time will tell about my thoughts when the film hopefully releases on January 13th, 2017.
