'Finding Dory' is the sequel to 2003's 'Finding Nemo' and once again stars Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks, along with newcomers Ed O' Neil, Eugene Levy, and Diane Keaton. The film continues where the original left off, telling the story of Dory finding her family leading on a big adventure. The film is charming, adorable, and funny all of the things that we've come to expect from Disney/Pixar films nowadays (We won't talk about 'CARS'). While it follows the formula Pixar films have come to be known for, it still works with the various little tweaks and changes once in a while keeping things fresh while staying the same.
The humor in the film is top notch, with some of the best jokes going to a pair of seals and Hank the Octopus (Ed O' Neil). The humor balances the seriously heart-wrenching scenes in this film, even more than in the previous 'Nemo' film. The film feels like a lot of heart and personal touch was placed into its script and production, leaving you feeling a variety of emotions as you leave the theater. On the downside, I would say it is more of the same for the most part. If you know your Disney, you know how films like this work by now as I mentioned above they follow a very specific formula and that can come off to some as generic or boring.
I honestly dare someone to find fault in some of these scenes however. Despite its similarities to other family films, Pixar are still simply the best at what they do and yes, they have had some films lately that frankly are either letdowns or just poor (Cars 2...) They still always bring something unique to the film, whether its the crisp animation, the humor, or the 'awwww' moments they always appeal to me. 'Finding Dory' is definitely worth your time, and well worth your home video collection.
